Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

I am trained in EMDR through the EMDR International Association, which was founded by Dr. Francine Shapiro, the original developer of EMDR. I am designated as an EMDRIA-Approved EMDR Therapist.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy that helps people heal from distressing experiences—including trauma—by guiding them to process those memories in a new, less overwhelming way. This method requires minimal talking about the trauma itself, so can be a useful technique for individuals who may prefer not to say much about those memories or experiences.

During sessions, the therapist uses gentle, rhythmic stimulation (like back-and-forth eye movements or tapping) while you focus on a specific event or feeling. This technique helps the brain "reprocess" the experience so it's no longer stuck or triggering, restoring balance in your nervous system. EMDR helps shift how your body and mind hold onto past trauma, offering relief and clarity at your own pace.

EMDR is not just for combat veterans or survivors of major trauma—although it is considered a top-tier trauma-focused therapy by the WHO and VA/DoD— it’s a powerful, research-backed therapy that’s helped people from all walks of life. Adults healing from childhood wounds, children working through emotional disruptions, first responders coping with occupational stress, and individuals navigating chronic pain or medical trauma have all found relief through EMDR. EMDR respects the pace of each person’s healing process while unlocking the body’s natural capacity to restore balance and clarity.
